Kadhal Kadidham
This film is so soft like a kitten, hidden in a Silk cloth. It’s a little Superior film also. The dialogue of the Father, “Maranathai Parthu Parthu Engalukku Pazhaghi Pochi” repeatedly echoes in our minds again and again. Who else can express so beautifully, the Pain of Love and the confusions of the unsure life, without any Guarantee? .
Aneesha comes from SriLanka to Chennai to learn Music. She sees SriBalaji in Chennai. In the beginning, they have lots of differences in the opinions between them. But, within 2 or 3 reels, they become close to each other. Coincidently, they both have the same meaning in their mind for the word “Love”, .i.e., “No belief in Love”. But, isn’t our mind like a Satan, which likes to travel in an “One-way”? Slowly, Balaji falls in love with Aneesha. When he expresses his Love, she starts to return back to SriLanka. The last few words said by Aneesha to Balaji are-“I want little time to think, I will go to my native and send letter to you”! The Climax is-“Does Aneesha writes Love Letter (Kadhal Kadidham) to Balaji? Does that letter reach Balaji are not?!.
Hero and Heroine both are new Faces. Their performances are so apt and perfect. How is it normally when Heroes and Heroines get introduced in Tamil Cinema? In this film it’s very different. It’s very consoling that this film has tried to break few routine customs of Cinema, like the Hero does not fall in Love at the first sight, on seeing the Heroine at the signal. How can the Aneesha continue learning her Music, when the Music-guru himself turns into a Doubting-guru? The Hero makes us to enjoy his performances, when he gives some fantastic ideas to save the Heroine from many tricky problems. Balaji has expressed his hesitations very beautifully, which creeps into him after falling in Love. The Heroine requests to broadcast a song of her choice to the Hero Balaji (acts as a Radio Jockey (RJ) in this film) through SMS. At the same time, a listener calls to the Hero (RJ) and asks him to broadcast a song, of the Hero’s choice. Then Balaji broadcasts the song requested by the Heroine to make her happy. This scene is very beautiful on the screen.
When the SriBalaji lands in SriLanka, immediately the whole Cinema hall becomes silent. A lone feeling starts to haunts us that something drastic is going to happen. The part of SriLanka shown in this film creates lots of different feelings in our mind. The performances of the SriLankan NatarajSivan, increases those different kinds of feelings.
The initial noises of the “Kadhal” Sugumar, makes us to get irritated. But, the Director’s talent of keeping the audience continuously connected to the film, by showing the soft feeling of Love is appreciable. The story which moves to SriLanka is taken-over by the Cinematography, Music and the Dialogues! It’s mesmerizing to see the Train by name “Yazhdevi”, and the part of Ealam Tamil’s SriLanka which the Tamil Cinema has never seen before. That too, the song by the word “Yazhdevi”, the Tune and the Beats will surely be one of the Top listed songs of this year! The New Music Director Udhaya is definitely a talented person, who is to stay here for a very long time. Cinematographer P.R.Rajan can also be included in that list. Just like his name, the Lyrics Writer Vaseegaran has given very attractive (“Vaseegara”) Lyrics.
Can we express the pain of Ealam Tamil, without giving at least a small work to the Censor board? The Debutant Director Mukesh has sprung-in some surprises to all! There are some films which get into our hearts as seeds, and then stand-up tall like huge trees. Without any doubt, “Kadhal Kadidham” will register itself, in our minds like those
kinds of films!.
